Enrichments #1: An Enriching Challenge

By: Rosemary Lake-Liotta

Enrichment can take many forms but starts with contemplation as to what one wants in terms of both personal and professional goals. Perhaps, for some, enrichment means the acquiring of material goods. The “right” car, living in the “right” area of town, having the “right job” that fulfills your needs may be how some define enrichment. I propose a more encompassing definition as food for thought.

How one defines “enrichment” can have profound effects on lifestyle, career path, spiritual choices, the meaning of relationships to others, and how one chooses to spend their time.

Values also determine enrichment paths. Do you highly value and prize material things? Do you prize having influential friends? Do you value nature and living things? What do you do with your time? Do you value having a few very close friends or do you prefer to have many friends but perhaps you do not know them on a deeper level? How do you define yourself in terms of what you find to be enriching to your life?

Spring is traditionally a time for renewal and growth. As you find the grass growing greener, the flowers coming to life with beautiful blooms, and the birds singing after their long winter silence, I challenge you to contemplate what you will choose for your own renewal and personal growth during this season of new life.

No matter who we are or what we do for a living we all have two things. We have our time and we have our energy. It is what we do with our time and our energy that determines if we will have the enriched life that we want or not. Take time and focus your energy on determining what you would like to do to enrich your life NOW.
